Supporting the community through engaging and exciting arts programming.
The Association of Florida Teaching Artists, Inc. (AFTA) was created as an ad hoc collaboration of individual artists with a shared passion for the important work that teaching artists (TAs) do in schools, communities and institutions.
As a unique artist-educator hybrid, a teaching artist has the opportunity to interact with people of all ages and cultures, demonstrating the critical role the arts can play in our personal lives, social interactions, and educational success.
Reaching, Teaching, Relating, and Creating…..that is what AFTA gives to me.”
– Ellen Goldberg-Tishman | Visual Artist
AFTA Connects artists to teachers and schools through short and long-term residencies both in-school and after-school. We also provide special programs for community groups and institutions, and participate in public, private and community programs.
AFTA seeks to become a voice for and serve as the HEART for Florida Teaching Artists:
- Sharing information and quality professional services
- Creating networks for employers and TAs to find one another
- Partnering with other organizations
- and Expanding awareness of the value of teaching artists.
